Bazu has been kind enough to nominate this blog for “Best Health Blog” over at the Blogger’s Choice Awards. You can use this link to go to the site, register, and vote for me if you want to. There are lost of great blogs nominated, so you might want to cast some votes in other categories as well. Thanks for the nice write-up of the blog, bazu!
While we’re talking about awards, last week Snackiepoo was sweet enough to bestow upon me the “Thinking Blogger Award” as was Ty The coolest part about this award is that I get to award it to 5 other people who can then award it to 5 other people if they choose. Great way to share the love, eh? Or to convince people to do a meme because they love getting awards.
My only dilemma was there are way more than 5 weight-loss bloggers that I admire and read rabidly, so how was I going to pick the winners without hurting someone’s feelings? My solution: award my favorite non-weight-loss blogs. What a brilliant compromise! I could totally be a politician, if I didn’t have ethics and morals and a conscience and all that. So in alphabetical order here are five blogs that make me think about something other than how fat my ass is or is not:
It’s always good to know there is a woman who is wackier than me and who owns four times as many cats. Crazy Aunt Purl is also a hilarious writer who posts several lengthy entries a week. Writing that much that regularly is hard, hard work, but she makes it look easy.
Funny blog by a guy in Seattle. And let me tell you, it’s damn hard to be funny on a regular basis. And no, the site doesn’t have anything to do with yetis, defective or otherwise.
Ostensibly this blog is about dresses and how pretty and cool they are, but Erin’s entries sometimes use her love of clothes to point out greater truths about life. For instance, in a recent entry she used an ugly-ish bolt of fabric she’d purchased to talk about different kinds of beauty. “The easy beauty of pink roses and sunsets is one thing; the difficult, ornery, belligerent beauty of rough concrete and sheets of rain is another.” I will always love her for telling us you don’t have to be pretty. Oh, and there are lots of dresses!
Jane Espenson is best know for writing the funny episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She’s also written for cool shows like Battlestar Galactica and Gilmore Girls. (Okay, I’ve never actually watched Gilmore Girls, but I know my life is less because of this.) On her blog she gives out daily tips on how to write better TV scripts, but her advice can easily be applied to all forms of writing. And you can read what she had for lunch every day too.
This is a newer read, but it definitely falls under the “makes you think” label. I think I found him through this overly analytical post about the TV show “Lost”, but it may have been this fascinating entry about narcissism. Either way, he’s a psychiatrist (I know you would never have figured that out if I didn’t point it out). As he says on his “About” page the blog is “about our failure to be critical. Why do we practice the way we practice? How do we know what we know?” See, why he gets the “Thinking Blogger” award? I don’t understand everything he says, but it always gets me thinking.
The people I’ve nominated are free to now award their own 5 thinking blogger awards, but I won’t be offended if they don’t because I don’t really know any of the people I nominated nor do I actually comment on their blogs a lot. Some of them are so popular that they make me feel like a bug on the windshield of the blogosphere. But if they want to, these are the participation rules:
1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think.
2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme.
3. Optional: Proudly display the ‘Thinking Blogger Award’ with a link to the post that you wrote.
