The Center for Disease Control found that by prettying up their stairwells they could get more people to use them. There are some before and after photos of the stairwells and honestly, even the before photos look 10 times nicer than my office building’s stairs. Now, I work in a building that used to be a car manufacturing warehouse, so I guess I can’t expect much. We only have one passenger elevator in the building, but two freight elevators. It’s funny, because a lot of artists work in this building. It would be cool if we could have a painting weekend or something and get people to decorate the stairs. I really would like to work in a prettier environment. I get so sick of the white walls of our office.

I work on the 17th floor of the FLDOE. I decided last Wednesday morning that I was going to walk up to at least the 5th floor & then take the elevator up the rest of the way. I made it to the 6th & wanted to die. I then took the elevator. On my way home for the day, I decided I’d walk down the 17th flights. Going down IS easier, but man, my muscles hurt for the next 2 days.
I may have been pushing it, but it felt SO good to feel “the burn”. That tells me I’m doing something instead of sitting on my behind all day. (Which I do. Desk job.)
Every morning since then I’ve walked up to the third floor & taken the elevator the rest of the way. I still feel it, but I don’t want to die afterward.
Stairs in my building are unavoidable. There are stairs to get from my car in the parking garage to the building. Once in the building, you have to go up stairs to get to the main stairwell.
The stairs in my building are one reason I decided I have to lose weight and get in better shape. At my highest weight, I was so winded and stairs hurt my knees so badly. I like my job, so I knew something had to give.
Now, the stairs are a huge part of my daily exercise routine. Love them! I also loathe them.
