I don't think this qualifies as something people do while running, but I did once see a guy run an entire 10K barefoot! It was July, so he wasn't cold. But the race was on a mix of road, sidewalk, and dirt paths. Yuck. I thought maybe he was doing it to make a statement or something, like anti-war, or fight poverty, but he wasn't wearing any slogans, carrying a sign or saying anything. The kicker is he came in behind me, and I walked the whole thing. So I think overall I would advise against the barefoot running...

I would love to figure out something else to do while I run. I get super bored sometimes especially now that I am running longer stints (half marathon in two weeks), but what would it be? I would love the be able to finish knitting projects, read more Proust, or complete my corporate taxes. But for now, its enough when I get the dog exercised, mileage in and if the baby is with me she is still smiling...

Wow...I'm such a dork. I was reading "joggling" as "JOGGING" and wondering why it was such a big deal for someone to be jogging in a marathon. Then I thought I was complete idiot when it came to running because I wasn't sure what the difference -- other than speed -- was between running and jogging and why it would set a record. And why was it "showing off" by chewing gum while jogging? LMAO

When I got to the second paragraph I realized I had missed something. Perhaps the letter L?

I ran the Army 10 miler last year and there's a guy from the Army who runs it and plays a FLUTE. I cannot fathom how he's able to do that. I barely had enough breath to finish the race much less play an instrument that pretty much requires 100% of your breathing.

PQ - I used to play flute in marching band. Or more accurately, I DIDN'T play flute in marching band. I was too out of breath to play the second half of the show. So I really admire that guy.
