Half of Me
The subtitle is still up in the air waiting for gravity to bring it splat down to the earth, but the title itself will be Half of Me. Thank you so much to everyone who sounded off on this topic! Your opinions really did make a difference. I wouldn't have thought of suggesting Half of Me as the title if you hadn't told me how much you all liked it. Sometimes you spend hours rearranging your furniture only to discover the couch really was in the best place to begin with. I'm glad we brainstormed so many other ideas though. It makes me certain that this is a good title especially in comparison to any other possibilities. I only have vague recollections of naming this blog and I don't remember how I came up with that title in the first place, but if it works there's no need to fix it.
So thank you again and you now have no excuse not to buy a copy (or five).
ETA 6-14-07: And we have a subtitle. The book will be called Half of Me: The Last 200 Pounds are the Hardest

Woo! First comment! Ahem. I'm so glad you decided to go with Half of Me. I think it's a great choice because it ties in beautifully with your blog (hello, increased hits!) and it perfectly describes the subject of the book.

I'm so glad you are sticking with Half of Me for the title of your book. I really like the idea of having the picture of your fat self looking at your thin self on the cover.
I think your publisher should consider offering a pre-sale to your loyal blog readers. You could break sales records before it even hits the bookstores.
What an inspiration you are to so many out there fighting the fight.
You look like you are already at "goal." You look absolutley AMAZING!!!
Congrats!

I'm so glad you went with Half of me!! I also like the pre-sale idea. But even if you don't do that, I certainly am going to buy a couple of copies!

I think it's great you ended up with _Half of Me_ for the title of your upcoming book. I can't wait until your book is published - I will definitely look for it when it is out.
I know you've heard this from many others, but you have been such an inspiration to me. I have 2/3 of me to lose and just felt so defeated before I even started, but thanks to your blog I purchased the SBD book and started this week. I know I'm going to have ups and downs, but knowing that there is someone else out there who has worked hard and lost the weight in a healthy way has given me hope that I, too, can do this.
Thank you, PQ, for not being afraid to share your journey with the rest of the world - you have touched so many of us with your story!
Hugs,
~*Julie Christine*~

Great name choice. I really, really want your book to become a national bestseller, that you go to Oprah, and that you become a millionaire :-), you deserve it, you've been so honest all the way and that requires a lot of courage.

After reading all of your archives and following you since then I've developed quite a fondness for Half of Me, and I thinks it's a great title. Although Breaking Up with Layne Bryant was amusing. I'd hate to see your publish date sidetracked by pesky lawsuits...
Just wondering since you mentioned work if your boss ever came out and congratulated you or anything. (I may have missed it if you've already answered this question)I understand what a sensitive issue it can be HR-wise, but really he'd have to be blind not to notice how fab you are.
Thank you for the many reminders that it's not motivation, but self love, self care and doing what maybe doesn't come naturally. It's helped me keep the focus on what's important - health and feeling good - which often coincide with great side benefits like shopping in real daylight and a perky butt.
Keep up the greatly inspiring work. I hope you'll continue even after you've reached your goal. I can't wait to read the book.

Hurray - I'm so glad you kept the Half of Me title. I will definitely be buying your book and recommending it to others. You have inspired and encouraged me more than I could ever express in a comment :-)
I have to admit I don't love the subtitle; it sounds a bit too self-deprecating or something. And for some reason "Half of Me: The First 200 Pounds are the Hardest" sounds better to me... but that could just be because I am in a funky mood today. I would buy the book no matter what. The Half of Me part is the real attention-grabber so as long as you have that in there I think the title will generate a lot of interest.

Excellent! But I still don't understand why there has to be a subtitle at all. As a matter of fact I think it takes away from the punch. Not that that will stop me buying it. :D XXX

I think it DEFINITELY needs a descriptive subtitle.
Half of Me alone could mean many different things -- someone in a co-dependent relationship, someone with emotional issues, etc. etc.
The subtitle conveys what the book is about --the crazy amounts of weight lost, the author's sense of lighthearted humor, etc. It also alludes to the fact diet/exercise were involved, as opposed to surgery. I like it!

Good move!
Not to get all Little Grasshoppery on you, here, but just as with your sharp self-observation about weight loss, you clearly have an unusual ability to see what's actually going on, and adapt. And once again, it saves the day.
In this case, it would have been nearly impossible for most people to see what was right in front of them, once they had simply gotten the idea in their heads that there had to be a change. They would have thought the commenters were just missing the point.

As "e" pointed out, "Half of Me" does need a descriptive subtitle.
And you couldn't do better than "The Last 200 Pounds are the Hardest". [Applauds wildly]

Hey PQ,
I have been following progress and girl, you look fan-freaking-tastic!!! Your story is so inspiring!
I wondered if you yet had a plan for the switchover to maintenance, once you reach your goal?
PastaQueen • June 18, 2007 10:05 PM
dena - Basically the plan for maintenance is the same plan for losing. Exercise. Eat right. Weigh-in regularly. Try to keep things fresh by trying new foods and exercising. I just won't be trying to make the numbers go down anymore but instead keep them right where they are. If you are talking about a plan for the blog, I plan to keep on blogging even when I'm in maintenance, at least as long as I have things to say.
