Most Saturdays I don’t care what the temperature is at eight o’clock in the morning. Most Saturdays I am snuggled in my bed debating whether to have oatmeal or eggs for breakfast. Most Saturdays I’m not starting my half-marathon training. Last Saturday was not most Saturdays. I woke up at 7:30 to check my computer’s weather widget for the temperature and my eyelids peeled up to my scalp when I saw this:
Crap! I got dressed anyway, in my newly purchased sweat-wicking pants and sweat-wicking pullover fleece from Target. I also put on a light-weight jacket and my wool coat and stuffed my hat and mittens in my pockets. Then I drove to the running store where my training program is hosted, all the while thinking I would get my training schedule and free T-shirt and then go home because only a group of cruel-hearted bastards would make anyone run in these temperatures. Surely the leader would stand up and laugh and tell everyone that the real running would start next week because it would [...]

Well, hello there! I can see there are a lot of new people hanging around these parts. Let me dig out some folding chairs and make room for you. Will everyone please scoot down a little so we can fit more people on the couch? Thank you.
I am PastaQueen a.k.a. Jennette Fulda and I’ve lost almost 200 pounds in the past three years, blogging about it along the way because typing burns calories. You can learn more about me here, read some of my best entries here, and check out my rotating progress photos here (no comments about my poor posture please). If you like what you read and have a credit card, you can pre-order my book, Half-Assed: A Weight-Loss Memoir which will be in fine bookstores in May (and also some not so fine ones). If you are just starting out on a weight-loss journey, you might want to browse the products that I’ve found helpful. If you have any questions, shoot me a line. I am a real live girl, [...]

NyQuil: The ultimate weight-loss drug. Who knew? Back in January of 2005 I started out weighing 372 pounds, so now I’ve officially lost over 200 pounds. I suspect some of that will come back though when I stop eating chicken broth and Jell-O. Seriously, losing 6.6 pounds in two days? Unlikely.
I always imagined this day as some sort of big celebration, but I feel like I won the Olympic medal while on steroids. Yeah, I’ve lost over 200 pounds, but the final credit goes to whatever bacteria or virus has infected my nasal passages for the past three days. Still, woo-hoo! My jeans do feel a little looser and I can sit in those Michael Kors pants I bought at the thrift store even though they were a little bit too small.
The second 100 pounds were definitely harder than the first 100 pounds. It only took me seven and a half months to ditch the first century whereas the second one took another two years and two months. Whenever people hear about how much weight [...]

The bad: I have a cold. My sinuses are as congested as LA traffic. My throat is as dry as the southeast. My head feels like it’s going to implode and suck everything within a 20 yard radius into its gravity well.
The good: I weighed in at 173.8 today, my lowest weight yet. Woo-hoo? That’s a 3.5 pound drop in just one day. I might lose these last 15 pounds in mucus alone. The cold has killed my appetite too, so I had to force myself to eat some soup last night. I’m trying to stay hydrated and I’m taking my vitamins, so hopefully this shall pass. I’m not a fan of the sicko diet.
So, tell me, what are your favorite cold remedies? Hot chicken noodle soup? Lots of orange juice? Not mixed together, I hope. Hit me with your ideas in the comments.
