You just had your first adjustment and you are about to be hooked to a machine....thats all I got. Had to go back to work. Congrats on your success.

I just got your book. AMAZING! I am now 35, living with headaches since I was 9, migraines stared when I was in my twenties. I recently got disability because my migraines have costed me my last four jobs. I know your pain so very well. Reading your book was very strang for me, it like you somehow got into my mind and took all my thoughts and experinces of what it is like living in chronic pain. Sad to say but I have become a walking migraine. Now there is a face to it, with arms and legs. Now its not just this thing we think of, its living. I am that thing. I just want you to know that your book is a comfort to me. How more strange does that sound, I have often said that I would not wish this life on my worst abuser, even my uncle that molested me for years when I was a child. No one should have to experience this pain. No one.

Hi again Jennette,
Honest, I'm not a stalker, despite this being the second comment on one post. Srsly - I'm Canadian, so I'm odd, but not *that* odd.

I just had to tell you this: the same day I finished your book, someone who didn't know until recently about Teh Headache asked me (and I quote), "Really? I had a bad headache last month. Have you ever tried Excedrin?"

I had to bite the inside of my mouth so I wouldn't laugh out loud.

I also found myself wishing you were standing next to me. The two of us could have totally taken her down. (Metaphorically speaking of course. Of course.)

Heh.

Just got your book the other day. I'm absolutely devouring it; over half-way through already. Though I can't relate to the ongoing headache scenario, I am utterly engaged. I really enjoy your writing style! Good work!

Hi Jennette,
Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing 'Chocolate and Vicodin'!!

I can't tell you how well-timed this book has been for me. It has made me feel much less isolated and wonky in general. I'm into year 5 of Teh Headache Monster and it is good to know that so many of your experiences mirror my own (especially re: topamax - ugh!).

This is truly a GREAT book Jennette. Keep up the good work.

Hey Jennette...if you didn't get a chance, i'd love for you to read the post on my blog about your book!

My sister is now reading it. While she doesn't suffer from any headache disorders, I encouraged her to read it not only to learn more about what I go through...but also just because it was a great book!

I read your book on a layover today and I was very impressed. I also saw many parallels in the approaches of the neurologists I have seen and the treatments used, which makes me feel not so alone. I am glad you were able to get the MRI right away- I had to wait almost 4 years until I got one.

I wish you continued success in the literary and blogging fields and that someday someone will come up with a magic headache sure. That involves brownies hopefully. :)

I devoured your book in a sitting and haven't been able to stop thinking about it and talking about it with my coworkers. I'm passing the book around. I am a nurse at a community health clinic. We see a lot of chronic pain and people whose lives have been derailed for years by their expectation (and often ours) that with the right tests and treatment, they will be fixed. In the meantime, they take their pills and apply their patches and wait for the cure and their lives trickle away. It seems so sad and such a waste of life. I previously worked with hospice patients, many of whom were in pain that they knew would be a major entity for the rest of their lives. I marveled at how often they were able to participate in those relationships and activites that were meaningful on their good days/ hours/ afternoon. Your book made me realize that we should be having the same conversation with people who have non-terminal pain as we do with hospice patients- What if we can't fix this and this is the rest of your life? What things matter enough that if we get your pain to a dull roar that you'd want to spend that precious time doing them. How much pain can you live with and still have a livable life?
Definitely a provacative book, not to mention wicked funny at times. Thanks!

I'm about 1/3 through it and have been enjoying it. I still think it's wrong of us to get so much enjoyment out of you in pain! You did a great job of describing Nurse Joan and the other nurse, I can totally picture them. That's about the part I'm at. Although, for some reason, I am picturing your apartment really dark and kinda dingy. Not dirty, just really old. Isn't it funny how we get this picture in our minds from books! No offense! :-)

I'll do a review on my blog when I'm done! Thanks!
