I have chronic facial pain that is one of the effects of having MS, and reading your story (the arrival of the pain; the visits to the doctor; the gradual recognition that the pain was here to stay; the many visits to specialists; the difficulty in getting doctors to take you seriously; the emergence of a transformed self who can manage the pain and negotiate the medical system) resonated with me very much. At the beginning of the book, I kept wanting to take you aside and tell you all the things that I’ve learned over the years about having chronic pain, so that you could skip some of the steps and reach the point where you could manage the pain successfully. Of course, for your readers who are just beginning the experience of having chronic pain, that is exactly what you are doing for them: showing them the ropes and forging a path through the thicket of pain and its consequences. I’m so glad that your pain is manageable at the moment and I hope that it stays that way. I also wish that medical professionals would read your memoir and others like it and take the lessons to heart about managing pain patients! Thank you for writing the book and I hope that you have hundreds of thousands of readers!

It is helping me better understand what my husband is dealing with as he endures chronic pain and illness that no one can diagnose. It’s been 7 years and I’m pretty sure that he beats you with the number of doctors he’s had. (But definitely the same experiences and outcomes.). I don’t know what you have done without a “me.”. I do everything for him that takes concentration. Anyway, love your book and will pray for you as I’m praying for him.
