The book release party for Chocolate & Vicodin: My Quest for Relief from the Headache that Wouldn’t Go Away was tonight at Flyleaf Books. I had a great time meeting some local readers, signing books and nomming on delicious cupcakes. If you couldn’t make it, you can still order a signed book online. Also, if you’re in the neighborhood, you can stop by Flyleaf Books tomorrow and grab some leftover cupcakes before the booksellers eat them all.
Here are some pics from the signing and of the cupcakes we made at a cupcaking party before the event. Mucho thanks to Big Bro and Sister-In-Law for use of their kitchen, and to Kindly Neighbor for helping, too. Sister-in-Law’s dad is a pharmacist, so we were able to get empty gelatin capsules to fill with color sugar and sprinkles. I promise, I didn’t really drug the audience! The other toppings were Smarties and Good and Plenty. (Good and Plenties? I don’t know the proper plural for that one.)

Instead of touring around the country, I’ve decided to stay inside my apartment and tour several blogs instead. From today until early March I’ll be making weekday stops at different blogs to discuss my book, Chocolate & Vicodin. We’ll be talking about how to cope with chronic pain, what makes a good author photo, how to stay fit and healthy when your unwell, how the publishing process works, and lots more.
I’ll be updating this list with links to the specific posts as we go along. I hope you’ll check them out! Big thanks to everyone who’s hosting me on this tour.

The short version
If you think you’re subscribed to my mailing list, you should double-check that you are. Just go to this page, submit you email address, and if you’re already subscribed it will tell you.
The long version
I started my mailing list over three years ago when Half-Assed was coming out. After I was through promoting that book, I neglected the mailing list for the next two years. If it were a plant, it would have turned brown and crinkly. Now that Chocolate & Vicodin is coming out, I took the old list and imported it to Mail Chimp, a well-regarded e-newsletter service that has cool tracking features and reports.
I sent out my first email a month ago, but was sure to add a little note at the top telling people why they were getting the message and how to unsubscribe if they were no longer interested. Evidently, six people didn’t remember subscribing to the list and didn’t read the first line because they reported the message as spam, which caused MailChimp to temporarily suspend my [...]

Disclosure: I was sent a free copy of this cookbook to review. Also, Roni is a cool chica I’m proud to call my friend.
Roni from Green Lite Bites (and a couple zillion other sites) published her first cookbook this year. It’s called Favorites from the First Three Years and contains—you’ll never guess!—her favorite recipes from the first three years of food bloggin’.
I’ve got to give Roni big props because her cookbook is beautiful. She put it together while raising a kid, incubating a new one, planning a blog conference and working for herself full-time, so honestly she’s making us all look bad. It’s got lots of large, full-color photos that make you want to eat the pages. Each recipe also has three tips or suggestions for variations on the recipe in case you don’t like one of the ingredients or just want to switch things up. She even calculated the calories, fat and fiber information for each recipe, which means she’s good at cooking and math. I also enjoyed the short introduction that explained what [...]
