I live in Sweden but would do almost anything to avoid Ikea. I’m 43 now and just too old to put up with the “facing the wall for a reason” part of the assembling process.

Got lucky and stumbled over a couch marked down considerably at a truly expensive furniture store. It was brought home and assembled – by actual store personnel – right in the middle of my living room. Pure heaven!

After that I raided my grandmother’s home for some quality furniture from the 1930′s. Some of the pieces make strange noises at night time, not because they’re haunted but because they’re solid wood, right?

I noticed your bookcase was twice as large as the one on the website which was why I asked such a weird sounding question…LOL. I may have to check out Ikea in Cinci sometime soon.

I found that the allen wrench is the only tool you really need with Ikea furniture and a good sense of humor…

I bought the EXPEDIT 5×5 bookshelf when I moved in to my new place two months ago. Four hours and lots of cursing of Scandinavian manufacturing later, I had it done. Thank God for the extra pegs. I have no idea how I’m going to get it down the three flights of stairs separating me from the ground level and my apartment when it’s time to move out. You go girl!!

That smell is not good for you. Open up your apt and air it out everyday for a few minutes.

Because of outgassing and cleaning products, most homes would not meet the osha air requirements of factories. Sad to say.

@jord – That is SO true. My last christmas with my (now ex) hubby, I had the tree up and… he refused to participate… so, it came right back down and into the box.

It was our last christmas, for very good reasons, obviously!

I bought that same Target tool kit when I moved into my condo 4 years ago and I have gotten so much use out of it! Definitely a well-spent 20 bucks :)
