Also... as for this line "Some people think the five-year mark is a statistically significant indicator of your likelihood to keep the weight off." I looked into this late last year when I hit five years of maintenance. (I guess my fativersary would technically be 10 years ago at the start of 2000 but losing is not the same as maintaining, imho, so I go with the date I hit the weight that I have been able to sustain. /blogress)

What I found is that the five year mark is often used with cancer patients. Especially breast cancer, doctors are want to say your are "cured" because the likelihood of it reoccurring after five years is nill. But like you I was unable to find any concrete studies that show you will be able to keep it off if you hit the five year mark either. I don't need a study to tell me however that I have changed my life for good. I'm sure you don't either!

Congratulations!

But I am confused and this may make me a douchebag. But is it five years ago you started the weight loss process? Or it's been five years since you've been maintaining. Hate to be a stickler... but two very different things.

Either way... still a rare and wonderful accomplishment!

I didn't find your blog until a year in, but it quickly became a favourite. And I loved the book too. Only once have you shocked me to the core, and no it wasn't the anatomically-correct baked goods, it was the heinous plot to get Officer Krupke transferred.

What an achievement - you should be very proud of yourself for

a) Achieving what you set out to do

b) Blogging about it and sharing your experiences along the way. People wishing to lose weight are notorious for NEEDING inspiration from others - you certainly have given that in abundance

c) Making people laugh their arses OFF- literally!

Well done Jenette!

Happy fat anniversary girl! You've come a long way and you deserve to celebrate.

I did buy your book and I'm glad I did. There aren't many memoirs out there like yours (if any at all). You've been there. You've lived it. And now you will become a great story on how to maintain, even if you gain some back. I have no doubt you'll do just fine.

And, thanks for the book. It got me going on my journey. It was just enough to give me that push - knowing that someone else did it and I can too.

Hi,

I am hoping you lose the weight you want but did I just read in a twitter that you skipped lunch because you are following some diet book? If you follow a diet, you will not keep your weight off. You will lose, but then you will gain it back. So, eat 5 times a day, smaller meals, nutritious meals, eat when you are hungry and stop when you are satiated, and exercise. I know it has been said before, but this is the only way. I truly believe this. I only need to lose 30 pounds but it seems like 100! I know what I am saying is hard, but what you did was hard too. You can do it. Good luck.
