Somehow I’m remembering someone talking about how relaxing it was to travel to a foreign country where they didn’t speak any of the language. Because of the information overload we’re usually in, with ads and tv and newspapers and stranger chatting at you. So much of that filter goes away. I’ve gotten doses of that when I’ve moved somewhere new and suddenly all the trivia of my friends lives goes away. That was before copious email and cell phones, and new trivia soon enters, but there’s a delicious few weeks…

@Monica – It’s funny that you try to make yourself feel somehow superior by making fun of what an “American Tourist” chooses to eat on her trip to Europe. Yeah, making ridiculously critical comments on someone else’s blog for no apparent reason is ‘da bomb’.

@Monica – Being a fan of PQ and the occasional tourist myself, why don’t you lighten up? Props to her for undertaking an international trip on her own (not to mention sharing it all with us), and if she wants a small taste of home, I wouldn’t fault her for it. Perhaps you didn’t mean to sound so condescending, but you do.

It never occurred to me that Les Champs had any use other than the final laps of Le Tour. I’ve even been there and walked the avenue but without bicycles it just isn’t the same. :)

American tourists crack me up. Yeah, having McDonald’s in other countries is da bomb! I mean, if you’re in Paris for 3 days, that’s where you should totally go to.

Also, it’s not macaroons, it’s macarons. They are two different things.

And I’m not sure if you’re having the same experience, but every time I go on vacation, I thank my lucky stars how much fitter I am. I used to whine about walking a mile and be more miserable sightseeing than enjoying it because my body just HURT. Thank goodness I’m not there anymore!
