It’s very easy to forget that what you eat directly affects how you feel. I had cake and ice cream last night for my brother’s birthday party and a couple hours later I felt like crap. The chocolate cake was yummy and the ice cream delicious, but the sugar crash it caused in my body two hours later was so not worth it. It’s so easy to forget how good I feel now that I eat healthily. It’s weird to think that most of my life I was going through highs and crashes and not really realizing it. I really never made the connection between mood and food until the past year or so. (I’m slow, I know.)

Yeah, I think of high-glycemic carbs as the “seven dwarfs of macronutrients.” Dopey, Sleepy, Grumpy, Sneezy…

My office has monthly a monthly birthday party for employees with birthdays in that particular month. I haven’t eaten any cake and icecream in the last 2 months, but this past month (May) I caved and cut a tiny piece of chocolate cake with heavenly chocolate icing. I added a dolop of vanilla chocolate swirl ice cream on the side. The thought of it made my mouth water, but after the first few bites I could feel the sugar was having a negative affect on my body. Even still, I finished the cake and icecream and crashed in my cubicle an hour later.
Tsk, tsk.
